Butter Naan is a butter flavoured delicious Indian flat bread which is extremely popular in the restaurants and parties. It is relished with rich vegetarian and non- vegetarian dishes. It is traditionally made in tandoors, a clay ovens. But now a days people use to make these at home in ovens or even on tawas. I use to make these Naans in my oven and here is an easy recipe.Try and enjoy….
All purpose flour (maida) 300gm
Active dry yeast 1tsp
Warm water 1/4 cup
Warm milk 1/2 cup
Curd 1/2 cup
Salt to taste
Butter as needed
Kalonji (onion seeds), to sprinkle
In a small bowl combine luke warm water, pinch of salt and sugar. Sprinkle yeast over it and let it stand until frothy. In a separate small bowl mix milk, curd and 1 tbsp oil. In a mixing bowl sift the flour and make a well in the centre, add the liquid mixtures. You can add one egg if you want at this time. I didn’t use. Fold the mixture with your fingers, lightly rubbing it, till it resembles bread crumbs. Use water as required to make a soft dough.
Set aside in a bowl and cover it with damp kitchen towel and keep it in a warm place until doubled in size.
Now lighty knead the dough again and then divide the dough into small balls. Roll them with a rolling pin or by hand in an oblong shape.
Preheat the Oven at 300 degree C for 5 mins. and then place the Naan on a baking sheet, top the naan with some water and onion seeds and put it inside the oven. Bake for 2-3 mins or till crisp and golden brown. Remove and apply butter. ( I didn’t use kalonji as my grandson doesn’t like it.)
Serve hot with any chicken or mutton dish of your choice.
