White channe (chick peas) 1 cup
Tea bags 2
Onion thinly sliced 2
Tomatoes chopped 3
Ginger chopped 1tsp
Green chillies chopped 1 tsp
Big cardamom 1
Cinnamon 1″ stick
Bay leaf 1
Cumin seeds 1/2 tsp
Coriander powder 1tsp
Channa masala 2tbsp
Garam masala 1tsp
Pomegranate (anardana) powder 1 tsp
Red chilli powder 1 tsp
Salt to taste
Oil 3 tbsp
Chopped coriander ,sliced onion for garnishing
Soak chick peas in enough water overnight or 6-8 hrs.
Discard water and wash it with fresh water. Now pressure cook channas along with tea bags, cinnamon, big cardammom and bay leaf for 20 minutes. Then check channa should be soft. Keep aside.
Heat oil in a pan add cumin stir add onion and ginger,cook till it turns brown. Now add tomatoes and green chillies. Add salt, red chilli powder,coriander powder, and anardana powder. Stir fry for 5 minutes or till oil separates.
Now strain channas, reserve liquid. Remove tea bags and add channas and channa masala to the masala mixture. Cook for 3 -4 minutes add remaining liquid and simmer covered for 20 -25 minutes till channas are thick and done.
Serve garnished with coriander leaves and sliced onions.
